Botox vs. Dysport — What's the Difference, and Which One Is Right for You?
By Mollie Wolf, PA-C | Inside Out Medical Aesthetics & Wellness | Fort Collins, Timnath & Windsor, CO
If you've been curious about neuromodulator treatments — or you've had Botox before and want to understand your options better — this post is for you. At Inside Out Medical Aesthetics & Wellness, injectables are one of our most requested services, and we believe an informed patient always gets better results.
So let's break it down.
What Are Neuromodulators?
Botox and Dysport are both FDA-approved neuromodulators — injectable treatments that temporarily relax the muscles responsible for expression lines. When those muscles can't contract as forcefully, the skin above them softens, smooths, and stops deepening the creases that form over years of movement.
They don't fill lines. They prevent the muscle action that creates them. That distinction matters — and it's why neuromodulators and dermal fillers are often used together for a complete, natural-looking result.
Botox vs. Dysport — What's Actually Different?
Both products use botulinum toxin type A as their active ingredient. They work the same way. The differences are subtle but real:
Botox is the most widely recognized name in the category. It tends to have a slightly more localized effect, which makes it particularly well-suited for precise, targeted areas — like the forehead, crow's feet, and glabellar lines (the "11s" between the brows).
Dysport has a slightly smaller protein molecule, which means it can diffuse a bit more broadly from the injection site. For some patients and some treatment areas — particularly the forehead — this produces a softer, more even result. Dysport also tends to onset slightly faster, with some patients noticing results within two to three days.
In practice, many experienced injectors use both and select based on the treatment area, the patient's anatomy, and their personal response history. If you've tried one and felt the results weren't quite right, the other may be worth exploring.
What Can Neuromodulators Treat?
Botox and Dysport in Fort Collins are most commonly used for:
Forehead lines — the horizontal lines that appear when you raise your brows
Glabellar lines ("11s") — the vertical creases between the brows from frowning
Crow's feet — the fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes
Brow lifting — subtle elevation of a drooping brow through strategic placement
Bunny lines — the diagonal lines on the sides of the nose
Lip lines & lip flip — softening vertical lip lines or creating subtle lip eversion
Chin dimpling — relaxing the mentalis muscle for a smoother chin
Jawline slimming & TMJ relief — masseter reduction for facial contouring and tension relief
Neck bands — relaxing the platysmal bands for a smoother neck profile
What to Expect at Your Appointment
A neuromodulator appointment at Inside Out is straightforward and quick — most visits take 30 minutes or less from consultation to walking out the door.
We begin with a thorough facial assessment, reviewing your anatomy, your movement patterns, and your goals. Treatment is then mapped to your specific face — not a generic template. Injections are administered with a fine needle; most patients describe mild pressure or a brief pinch, and no numbing is required.
Results develop gradually over five to fourteen days and typically last three to four months, though this varies by patient, area, and dose. With consistent treatment over time, many patients find their results lasting longer as the muscles soften with repeated relaxation.
Why Provider Experience Matters
Neuromodulators are only as good as the hands administering them. Poorly placed injections can cause asymmetry, heaviness, or an overdone appearance that no one wants. An experienced, medically trained injector understands facial anatomy at a clinical level — and knows when to use restraint as much as when to treat.
At Inside Out, every injection is placed by Mollie Wolf, PA-C, a physician assistant with 21 years of clinical experience. The goal is always a result that looks like you — refreshed, natural, and entirely your own.
